    Description

Antique Cup, Reed and Barton.  Cast iron Silver plated.  Little Bo Peep. Made in USA 1880s
The engraving on the cup was a gift for: Theresa 13-7-24
Such a charming Baby or Child's Cup, this Victorian Little Bo Peep Cup was made in the 1880's by renowned Reed & Barton, of quadruple plated Silver. The children's rhyme is illustrated so beautifully, on on both sides, Little Bo Peep is searching for her lost sheep, her crook in hand, and her faithful dog by her side while the sun is shining.
On the other side, her naughty sheep are running back to her in the dark {the moon is now shown}  "wagging their tails behind them." In the center, the decorative cartouche is still blank. This cup shows evidence of being used by generations of small ones, the outside is in wonderful antique condition, the inside has some corrosion. A lovely addition to your collection, or the beginning of one, will look amazing displayed with your antique children's books and dolls, bears and toys too. Measures 3~3/8" h x 2~1/2" in diameter, not including the 1" handle.
REED & BARTON: History in brief
The Reed & Barton story began in 1824, when Isaac Babbitt created a new metal alloy - "Britannia metal" - in his Taunton, Massachusetts pewter shop.
Babbitt joined forces with craftsmen Henry G. Reed and Charles E. Barton to produce this innovative, higher quality pewter ware. When Babbitt encountered financial difficulties, Reed & Barton offered to take control and began manufacturing products under their own names. The fledgling company's goods reflected uncompromising standards of excellence, starting with its initial silverplate products and extending to the exquisite sterling silver creations that resulted from the silver discoveries of the late 1800s.
The company has remained privately owned by the family of Henry Reed. Besides the flatware for which it is renowned, Reed & Barton operates other brands as well: Reed & Barton Handcrafted Chests, the world's largest manufacturer of handmade chests, cigar humidors, pen chests, and hardwood flatware. Miller Rogaska Crystal, handmade stemware. Sheffield Collection, a company started in 1908 and purchased by Reed & Barton in 1973.
Reed & Barton maintains its headquarters in Taunton, Massachusetts, once known as "Silver City" because of the number of silver companies operating there
