  • Condition: This American Antique MCKEE CHOW DOG Milk Glass Covered Dish is in good condition- it is noted there is an old professional restoration to the top rim of the base with a small bit of old glue showing; a bit of roughness or fretting at the top of the left ear; and there are some traces of original paint. Otherwise, condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing. Overall, this work is sound, having no other chips, cracks, major defects, or other apparent repairs or restorations.     Rare MCKEE CHOW DOG Milk Glass Covered Dish Antique Signed Antique,

    This rare and whimsical
    MCKEE CHOW DOG Milk Glass Covered Dish
    :
    - has well-modeled top cover in high relief depicting a recumbent chow dog on alert, in an
    upright
    pose. The dog’s head
    and ears
    are upright, front paws in front are forward. Back legs are tucked under the body with one back paw showing, and the bushy curled tail is up.
    - is mold formed pressed glass, well modeled in deep relief with very good design and detail, and is Milk Glass or opaline with opalescence and “fire”;
    - has the hallmark McKee split rib base;
    - the base has a raised rim edge, elevating the base slightly; the base also has the split rib design which meets at the center;
    - has a fitted rim between top and bottom; the has an inside rim ledge projecting up from the bottom so that the top slips neatly inside the edge of the base to hold it secure;
    - on the underside of the top there is the
    authentic makers’ mark “McKee”
    ; on the inside bottom of the base is another authentic makers’ mark “McKee”. These are early marks of
    McKee
    & Brothers, Pittsburgh (1864- 1888).
