Antique Sterling Salad Set; Towle; Spider and Moon Design; 1850-99; Parcel Gilt
This stunning salad set has
a HEAVY sturdiness which is more than their gracefulness would suggest.
The handles have a beautiful sweeping curved form that give the set flow. The spider and her web grace the top of both handles, and lead into two crescent moons and foliage. Both
pieces have an artistic design in the Japanesque style.
Both pieces have bright-cut engraving, cut back into their parcel gilt functional ends.
Retailer, J. Allan & Co. Monogram "ACP," is clearly visible on back of both handles.
